The villagers in Lakhisarai, Bihar have much to thank Ranbir Kapoor for the Bollywood star sponsored solar lamps to the developing village during the Greenathon 2010 and today thats proved beneficial by leaps and bounds.
A lot more economical and less polluting than kerosene lamps, the solar lamps have helped students to study in the evenings, women's work in kitchens and also helps small scale workers earn more as they can work late hours.
The area of Purani Bazar especially has benefited with Ranbir Kapoor's sponsorship. A source says, "Purani Bazar in Lakhirsarai has a lot to thank Ranbir Kapoor for. The vegetable vendors here had to wrap up their stalls before sundown everyday because there was no electricity. Some of them would do their business in kerosene lamps. But it cut into their earnings as it cost them 8 rupees a day to run these. Moreover some days they could not even light these as kerosene was not available easily. Now Ranbir Kapoor's solar lamps have lit up their lives".
Ranbir Kapoor was part of the Greenathon 2010 that helped raise money to provide solar power to 160 villages across the nation.
